Winter Tours – Find out more!

Our Winter Tours & Tastings are an opportunity for you to take a peek behind the scenes as our vineyard rests quietly through the winter months.

Follow us as we walk beyond the ‘no entry’ signs to see and learn about how our sparkling wines are produced here at Saffron Grange. We will wander through the vineyard to see what the vineyard team are up to in this cold, but busy period before heading into the winery to learn more about the winemaking process. Finally, the bit you’ve all been waiting for; a drink (or three!) as you are guided through our three most recent releases and tutored on how to appreciate our wines.

Please read our FAQs below for more information. We hope to welcome you on a Winter Tour & Tasting soon.

Q: What does a Winter Tour consist of and how does it differ from a Summer tour?

A: We will take you for a tour through the vineyard followed by a relaxed and informal but informative tasting of our wines. The winter tours tastings are held inside our bar area and are for smaller groups of up to 12 people so the result is a more intimate setting with an opportunity to ask more questions. We are also able to venture into our winery at this time of year to see and learn more about the wine making process too!

Q: When do they take place?

A: Every Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 11.00am through the Winter months. All our current availability is on our website here.

Q: How much is does it cost?

A: It’s £25 per person for the tour and tasting. If you would like to have a grazing board to enjoy after the tour that’s extra.

Q: What will I learn about?

A: You’ll learn all about Saffron Grange; the history, what it takes to grow and produce sparkling wine in the UK and you’ll learn why this little hillside just outside Saffron Walden is so special. Then you’ll head into our winery to learn about how we make our Premium Quality Sparkling Wines with an opportunity to taste the full range afterwards and of course put any questions along the way to our knowledgeable, passionate and friendly team.

Q: What should I wear?

A: Although we will mainly be on short grass, we would recommend wearing wellies or walking boots, layers and a warm coat. We have plenty of umbrellas in case it’s raining.

Q: Will the tour be cancelled in bad weather?

A: Safety is paramount to both our guests and our staff, so if we deem the weather will make the tour unsafe, our guests will be able to re-book. However, our tours will go ahead otherwise although we might opt to be outside for a shorter period of time.

Q: Will we be inside?

A: The tour will begin out in the vineyard after which we will return to the warmth for the final part of the tour and for the tasting which will take place inside our tasting room.

Q: What sort of people would enjoy a winter tour?

A: Our tours are open to anyone and we think anyone with an interest in wine will get something out of our tours from the novice to the most learned wine connoisseur.

Q: Is the tour suitable for children?

A: Sadly the tours are not suitable for children due to the nature of the topic and our alcohol licensing policy however we do run other events throughout the year where we welcome families including our Sundowners, Mammoth Day Out and of course families are welcome to come to our Tasting Room for drinks and a grazing board when we are open by appointment. Just give us a call on 01799 516597 or email us: vineyard@saffrongrange.com.

Q: Are food and drinks included?

A: You will have the opportunity to sample our three most recent releases (equivalent to one full glass) at the end of your tour included in the price but you are also welcome to stay after the tour and order additional drinks from our fully-stocked bar until 4pm. At the time of booking you are also welcome to pre-order a grazing board (we recommend one between two) to enjoy alongside your wines. There is currently a choice of cheese, charcuterie or seafood.

Q: Are dogs allowed?

A: We welcome well-behaved dogs on leads as long as they’re not too noisy as they can sometimes disrupt the tour.

Q:
How long is the tour?

A: The tour and tasting takes about 90 mins in total depending on the number of questions we get on the tour. If you have lots of burning questions, we would ask that you save them to the end (after any additional drinks or food have been served) when you would be welcome to question our tour guide to your heart’s content! If you have ordered food to enjoy at the end of the tour we would recommend adding another half an hour onto the time.

Q:
 How do I book?

A: Click onto our Experiences page and follow the steps for Winter Tour.

If you have any other questions about Winter Tours or any of our other upcoming events, please get in touch with us by emailing vineyard@saffrongrange.com.

We look forward to seeing you at the vineyard soon!
